Dinner at the Waldhaus Sils Maria

Start on the outside and work in.

Crucial knowledge for dining at the Waldhaus in Sils Maria... just so you don't have a Julia Roberts in 'Pretty Woman' moment.

After checking into our room, Amber and I got dressed and ready for dinner in such a haste that we would have put the average Japanese bullet train to shame.

We were more than a little bit peckish to say the least.

The menu at the Waldhaus consists of 5 courses and is changed daily. The setting is wonderfully elegant with the tables laden with silverware and candles.

Amber was so exhausted from our lengthy train journey that she gave up on selecting from the menu entirely, and left all the decisions in the hands of our waiter.

I took a less risky strategy and selected all the meat dishes.

In the meantime we ordered glasses of wine which came out in jugs... my kind of place!

Shortly after the wine came the first course, which was a rich, cream of pumpkin soup served with a dangerous amount of fresh bread and butter.

Things started to get interesting in round two. I would have to say I was rather surprised when Amber's dish turned out to be palak paneer served with chapatti and chai. Not what I was expecting in the Swiss Alps, but I was impressed with the creativity.

I also did have a sneaky taste and it was delicious!

My pan-fried sea bass with gnocchi was less exotic in origin but just as tasty, I especially liked the chick pea sauce.

For the main course, Amber's dish stole the show again in terms of innovative cooking. So innovative in fact that we didn't actually know what it was but again, taste was on point.

My highland beef roast held up the traditional corner of our meal. It was hearty and filling, perfect for after a long day of travel.

At this point Amber claimed she was far too full and couldn't manage to eat another morsel.

This new found resolve lasted about 5 minutes, and then we ordered dessert.

I would like to pretend that we didn't instantly wolf it all down, but we did. The plates were shiny clean on return.

To finish of the meal I ordered an espresso, mainly because of the adorable little chocolate cup that holds the milk...

How cute is it??

Such a good meal! I would happily return to the Waldhaus just for the food alone.
