Autumn Strolling in Vienna

What to do in Vienna

It felt like just yesterday when I was out enjoying the summer sunshine.

I don't know how its happened already but the leaves are falling off the trees and winter is well and truly on its way.

Though fall definitely does have its advantages...

So Pretty!

Our weekend away in Vienna was full of beautiful churches and visits to palaces.

First on our list was Schönbrunn Palace, the former imperial summer residence.

The history of the palace spans over 300 years and was home to several generations of the Hapsburg Dynasty.

Nowadays it attracts thousands of tourists each day as well as the Viennese who come to stroll or jog through the vast palace grounds.

Seeing as the Schönbrunn Palace is such an important monument in Austria's history I thought it would be the perfect spot for my signature pose.

After all that yoga it was time for some food ;)

We went to Naschmarket, which is a high-end food market with restaurants that is very popular among the locals for a bite to eat.

Naschmarket

There are lots of great restaurants to pick from in Naschmarket, this particular time we were drawn to La Maree, a cosy seafood restaurant.

Both of us went for aperol spritz and an incredibly delicious seafood risotto!

The following morning we woke up bright and early to go to the Spanish Riding School.

Mum is a huge fan of horses and loved the classical dressage performances.

I don't quite share mum's love of horses but it was an impressive show all the same.

The Spanish Riding School is next the Hofburg Imperial Palace, right in the centre of town!

Interestingly the day we explored the Hofburg they had some sort of Army fair on. There were trucks, tanks, and helicopters, ice cream and hot dogs, and games for the kids.

I am not quite sure of the morality behind promoting the army to the under 10 population but into a helicopter I went!

In the afternoon we went to what is now my favourite palace - Belvedere Palace.

It's beautiful white facade and shimmering lake are just stunning!

To wrap up our Viennese adventures we went to Fabio's for dinner.

Mum was so taken with Naschmarket that at first she was a little difficult to convince but when we eventually got there it was so worth branching out.

Fabio's Vienna

The food was amazingly fresh and tasty, I gulped down every last bit of my baked sole!

Mum had the lamb and was equally impressed.

Definitely a place worth remembering for the future!!

That's it from my Vienna weekend, if you want to read more you can check out my stay at the beautiful Hotel Sacher here, and my round-up of the best coffee shops in Vienna here.

In other news I sadly had to postpone last weeks trip to Berlin due to the Lufthansa strike, but I won't be grounded for long as I will be in London next weekend and then heading to the ILTM in Cannes the weekend after! If any other bloggers will be in Cannes let me know!

  11. Vienna is not only beautiful but has wonderful historical sights to see. Your autumnal pictures are beautiful. The Spanish ridding school whilst beautiful was seriously over priced for the view that I managed to get. I loved the palace Lucy x

    1. Oh no that's a shame! We were actually so late with booking that we could only get standing, it was a bit tiring but at least the tickets were cheap.
