Sleeping in Rapunzel's Tower at Dromoland Castle

After trying rather unsuccessfully to pack up all my stuff in my apartment in one day (yes I am moving house) I had the option of staying and trying to miserably clean up and pack more or taking a break and going to a wonderfully luxurious castle in the Irish countryside…

Yeah you're right, that’s not even a choice...

So on a beautiful Irish summer day we rolled up to this magnificent medieval castle in County Clare and instantly forgot all our packing woes.

The day just kept getting better as we were shown to our very own two story suite, IN A TOWER!

YES! Childhood Rapunzel dream is now complete … minus the whole having someone climb up your hair bit.. can't imagine that is much fun, and the whole witch thing.. that can't be fun either.

I danced around the living room in excitement.

Especially after finding that there were welcome treats awaiting us.. hooray!

Then I dashed upstairs to the gorgeous bedroom design, it was so quaint and cute.

I manage to talk about bathtubs in nearly every hotel post but this one has to be one of the best, I just loved how it was set into it's own alcove and it was so big that it was basically more of a hot tub than a bath.

Perfect! Can someone please install one in my new apartment?

From our living room we also discovered that there was an enormous balcony. I am not too sure if we were meant to go out there.. sorry Dromoland Castle if we broke the rules!

Climbing out of the window was a graceful process…

But it did seem like the Walt Disney thing to do.

Once we were done living out our various fairytale stories we went out onto the lake.

I did all the work.

Or perhaps I just posed for photos.. I'll never tell.

Luckily if the rowing was just far too much activity for you, there was an easy way back to the castle.

For dinner I wore a dress I bought in Kuala Lumpur last year. If I were to describe the dress it would be a western take on the Chinese cheongsam.

Dinner itself was a hearty affair, we ate and ate until we just couldn’t fit anymore in!

I don't normally comment on the service unless it is spectacularly bad (tut tut Bob Bob Ricard) but this time I was amazed in the opposite direction, the service was just flawless.

For starters I had the Pork Belly & Crab served with apple puree, cucumber & chili salsa.

Himself had the Foie Gras Saute with Cocoa served with peaches, brioche crouton, and madeira sauce.. of course for blog purposes I had a small nibble and it was delicious!

On recommendation from our waiter I had the Fillet of John Dory served with fennel encase, pak-choi, red pepper salsa and saffron aioli… solid recommendation.

I was actually so full that I couldn't bring myself to try the Roast Rack of Burren Lamb but I had very positive reports from across the table.

I did however manage to recover in time for dessert! We shared the sharing plate of desserts which came with a selection of 5 sample puddings.

We also nibbled (gobbled) a lemon meringue pie, yum! Then never ate again for as long as we lived.

I swear we did not have the petit fours, we were oh so good and asked for them to be packed… I know, I am like a diet guru.

We then somehow staggered up to our tower and watched a movie to finish off a superb day at Dromoland Castle.

If you want to check out Dromoland Castle's website you can find it here. Happy Travels!
