Press for Champagne

"A little party never killed nobody."

Well if you insist..

If ever there was a restaurant to remind you of the lavish parties of J. Gatsby, it would be the glitzy Bob Bob Richard in London Soho.

Appreciate this photo.. you will read what I had to go through to get it at the end

The Russian influence from Bob Bob Richard's owner Leonid Shutov, can be seen everywhere from the frozen vodka shots to a design so extravagant it would please any mink wearing, caviar eating, Oligarch.

Fanciest booth ever!

Partly in thanks to a solid Instagram game, Bob Bob Richard has remained firmly on the right side of London's  hot or not list since opening 5 years ago. In fact I first found out about the restaurant from The Londoner's Instagram, and ever since have been dying to go.

Finally a trip to London came up and I quickly booked BBR before Emre could have any other ideas! For the dinner I wore a Ted Baker dress and the shoes were a very lovely Christmas present.

Once there we were seated in a blue and gold trimmed booth with a marble table top.

I love booths, they are so much more comfortable than a table and chairs and it also gives you a sense of privacy rather than joining in the conversation of the people sitting next to you which seems to be a current trend.

Gimmicky or not, of course the first thing we did was to Press For Champagne!

This needs to become more of a thing

I had visions of beautiful slender flutes filled with golden bubbles suddenly appearing on the table after you pressed the button, but instead came a waiter asking what type of Champagne we wanted.

We ordered two glasses of Ayala Champagne, so delicious!!

Having had a sneaky snack at the hotel earlier we skipped starters and went straight for the main course. I ordered the Baked Sole with Champagne Sauce, that was served stuffed with lobster and sitting on a bed of spinach.

Won't get fat on that

The sole was very flavoursome but I found the portion quite small, perhaps starters would have been a good idea after all..

Emre ordered the Lobster Burger which was served in a brioche bun and came with Mary Rose sauce.

He also found the portion to be very small but at least there were some tasty chips to save the day.

For dessert we went for the BBR Signature Chocolate Glory.

The Dream! Photo credit: BBR

It was fabulous watching the golden chocolate ball melt away as the waiter poured hot sauce on it, a very exciting dessert indeed!

Rather disappointingly just before we left I turned on my flash to take a quick photo of the restaurant itself. There was only one other table still there and I probably took 3 shots in total before hearing a waiter muttering under his breath to another waiter about how rude I was being. I understand the world does not feel the same way about photos as bloggers do, but a polite word from the waiter to me directly would have been a better way of handling it than snide remarks to another waiter.

Yup here is the offensive photo again :/

Anyways, rant over! I loved the decor, the champagne, and the experience. The food was tasty but don't go hungry, or take photos?!

  1. Love the review - this is high up on my list ever since I saw it on The Londoner's Instagram too!
Such a shame about the snooty waiters (they probably just wish they could press for champagne rather than having to be the ones serving it! :)

    1. Haha! Probably ;) It was fairly late at this stage so I guess he just wanted to go home. You should definitely check it out, the decor alone is worth a visit!

  4. What a stunning restaurant the interior and the booths are lovely and romantic. I have heard wonderful things about the chocolate dessert and this hasn't squashed then this looks so yummy. Shame about the staff, recently London has had a real service issue where staff consider that they are more important than guests. Manners and service make a restaurant as much as the food. Lucy x

    1. I know what you mean about service it really puts a big dampner on the whole experience, I was loving the restaurant up until that point. Hopefully they have their act more together in future as it would be a shame to ruin such a nice place.

    1. It was so strange, especially as BBR is very active on Instagram! I am sure you will have a better experience, I think I might have just got him at a bad moment. I loved everything else about the restaurant!
